Two hurt in Lisle construction accident
Two construction workers were injured Wednesday afternoon while working on the Reagan Memorial Tollway project near the DuPage River crossing west of Warrenville Road in Lisle.
Lisle-Woodridge fire officials declined to identify the men or the status of their injuries.
Firefighters said one of the injured men was securing pilings in a 12-foot deep pit near the river crossing when another worker fell onto him from an overhead beam.
Illinois Toll Authority spokeswoman Joelle McGinnis said the workers were installing a temporary structure to prevent water from seeping into the area where concrete piers are scheduled to be poured.
Rescuers needed about 20 minutes to rescue both men from the pit using special ladders and a rescue basket.
Both men taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with what McGinnis described as minor injuries.
Illinois State Police are treating the incident as a construction accident and said neither worker was struck by a vehicle.
