Briefs: Preschool hosts blood drive

The deLacey Family Education Center and Heartland Blood Centers will hold a blood drive from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the deLacey gym, 50 Cleveland Ave., Carpentersville. Bring a photo ID. Violence counseling offered

The Community Crisis Center in Elgin will provide domestic violence counseling services for northwestern Kane County. Counseling is provided by a licensed professional counselor and is available to adult and adolescent females. All of our domestic violence services are at no cost to victims. Experts say one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. Streamwood High graffiti

Vandals spray-painted graffiti onto the south exterior wall of Streamwood High School at about 11 p.m. Thursday, police reported. Graffiti also was discovered on portable toilets near the tennis court, on the football supply building, baseball dugouts, announcement booths on both the east and south fields, on the high school water tower, and on a rock near the student parking lot entrance, police said. A damage estimate was not available and no arrests had been made.

Heineman seeks donations

Heineman Middle School will hold its second annual Mini Relay, the school's shorter version of the cancer fundraiser Relay For Life, on Tuesday. Students will walk on the middle school track to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Last year, students raised $17,500. The school is asking for donations of prizes for the students such as electronics, gift certificates, CDs or DVDs. Prizes can be dropped off at the school office, 725 Academic Drive, Algonquin.
