Preparations are under way once more for the annual Run to Alexian Field, taking place this year on June 1.

The 5K race will begin at 7 a.m. that Sunday in the Metra parking lot next to Alexian Field, 2000 S. Springinsguth Road, and will end inside the Schaumburg Flyers' stadium.

"This is a great community event for all ages," said Gwen Strombeck, special events supervisor for the Schaumburg Park District. "It gives Flyers fans a unique opportunity to get out of the stands and onto the field."

Check-in and race-day registration will start at 5:45 a.m., followed by a pre-race briefing at 6:45 a.m.

Pre-registration costs $17 through next Friday. Race-day registration costs $19.

A $50 cash prize will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, and awards will be given to the top two finishers in each age category for men and women.

Fahrrad Tour von Schaumburg: A reminder that this Sunday is the village's annual Fahrrad Tour von Schaumburg bike ride.

The six-mile route will start from Blackwell Elementary School at 345 N. Walnut Lane at noon, proceeding both on- and off-street bike paths to the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court.

Before riding, all participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver. The finish line will have a picnic lunch and musical entertainment.

The Schaumburg Park District will bus participants and their bikes back to the starting point at 1:45 p.m., for those who don't want to ride all the way back.

T-shirts will be available at the end of the tour for $10.

To get a map of Schaumburg's bike paths, or find out more about the village's biking programs, call the transportation department at (847) 923-3862.

More historic restoration: This spring is proving to be about the busiest period yet for Schaumburg's historic restoration grant program, established five years ago.

This time, it's the owners of Easy Street Pub at 17 S. Roselle Road that's seeking a 50 percent reimbursement from the village -- or $13,093.50 -- for repairs and restoration work expected to be done this year.

The pub lies within the Olde Schaumburg Centre which has Schaumburg and Roselle roads at its heart.

Village trustees Tuesday also approved spending $32,500 for a headstone restoration project at St. Peter Lutheran Church. This is not part of the grant program, but a separate project the village became involved with due to its historical importance.

The church at 208 E. Schaumburg Road was the original inspiration for the historic restoration grant project in 2003 when church officials sought financial help for the restoration of the roof and steeple of the chapel.

Last month, the new owner of the village's historic buttery building at 105 S. Roselle Road was promised a $58,000 grant to split the costs of a restoration project there.
