Church plans event to honor graduate

St. Michael Church and School will hold a special dedication ceremony to honor Sgt. Rob Miller, who was killed in action in Afghanistan, and all St. Michael parishioners and school alumni who served or are serving in the military.

Mass will be at 8 a.m. May 23 at the church, 315 W. Illinois, Wheaton. A procession and dedication ceremony of the plaza at Willow Street and Wheaton Avenue will be named for Miller. His parents will attend.

He is the son of Phillip and Maureen Miller of Oviedo Fla., and a 1998 graduate of St. Michael and 2002 grad of Wheaton North.

Wheels of Justice are ready to roll

The Carol Stream Police Department will hold its eighth annual Wheels of Justice emergency vehicle show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24 at the Town Center, 110 W. Lies Road. The event is free, with children's activities and free child safety seat inspections. Concessions will be available from the Carol Stream Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 45. Cantigny plans free concert season

Cantigny Park will present its Sunday concerts in the park at 3 p.m. Sunday, rain or shine, in the band shell, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton.

Seating is on the lawn, so guests should bring a blanket or lawn chair. Concerts will feature the Chicago Brass Band May 25 and Steve Cooper Orchestra May 26.

Barbara Walters will sign memoir

Journalist and television host Barbara Walters will sign and read from her new book, "Audition: A Memoir," at 7 p.m. May 28 at North Central College's Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville.

Tickets cost $5 with the purchase of the book from Anderson's Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson St., Naperville. Additional tickets cost $10 and do not require a book purchase.

Troupe plans 'Patent' auditions

The Tempo Players will hold auditions for its summer musical production, "Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?" at 7 p.m. May 27-28 at Rosary High School, 901 N. Edgelawn, Aurora. Callbacks will be at 7 p.m. May 29.

Those who audition should prepare a song, preferably one from the show. The auditions also will include dancing and readings from the script. A variety of roles for actors able to play characters 18 and older are available.

Rehearsals will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays starting June 1. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, July 25-27 and Aug. 1-3.
