Nonprofit group to sponsor bone marrow drive

To honor the memory of Kari Imhoff-Crewe, who succumbed to leukemia in September, KIC Leukemia has been created to draw increased attention to leukemia related issues, actively work to increase the number of registered potential marrow donors and provide support to leukemia victims.

KIC Leukemia will conduct a marrow donor registration drive from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's UCC, 485 Woodstock St., Crystal Lake.

Every day there are more than 6,000 people searching the National Marrow Donor Registry for a potential donor match. These men, women and children are suffering from life-threatening illnesses like leukemia, lymphoma and others and are hoping to find a match that could save their life.

Currently in the U.S., there are only 4.5 million potential donors on the registry and only 7 million worldwide. Any person of good health from 18 to 60 years of age is eligible to join the registry and donate marrow if you match someone in need.

If you are not yet registered as a potential marrow donor, consider registering Sunday.
