Briefs: Four arrests after conflict

Three men and one woman were arrested around 4 a.m. Thursday after they blocked traffic at Plum Grove Road and Euclid Avenue in Rolling Meadows, according to police. The group blocked a driver and screamed obscenities at him, police said. The victim honked his horn, but the men kicked his car, police said. Police said the four were under the influence of alcohol at the time. Those arrested were Kenneth R. Wisniewski, 38, of Palatine; Kevin M. Glowicki, 29, of Palatine; Eric J. Householder, 29, of Des Plaines; and Leticia Perez, 24, of Harvard. All four were charged with disorderly conduct and intoxicated pedestrian in the roadway. Wisniewski was also charged with battery.

Garage sale begins today

Starting today, hundreds of people in Mount Prospect will hold garage sales from 9 a.m. to dusk for the next three days. Organized by Picket Fence Realty's Mount Prospect office, the community-wide event attracts thousands of shoppers and is said to be the largest of its kind in Illinois. $80,000 in fittings stolen

Des Plaines police report that thieves cut off the lock and stole stainless steel valves and stainless steel and brass fittings out of a business storage trailer at 51 W. Wille Road. Value was estimated at $80,000. The theft occurred between 2 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Palatine traffic campaign

In an effort to promote traffic safety, Palatine police will conduct roadside safety checkpoints from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. May 24 and May 31 in the areas of Rand and Dundee roads and Roselle and Algonquin roads. The effort is part of an aggressive traffic safety campaign now through June 1. Both daytime and nighttime patrols will be stepped up using state transportation funding.

Major seat belt campaign

If you don't buckle up, there's a good chance police will stop you in the next couple of weeks. Officers in the Northwest suburbs, as well as their counterparts across the state, are teaming up through June 1 to crackdown on seat belt violators as part of the Click It or Ticket enforcement program. This particular Click It campaign starts today and puts additional officers on the street, strictly looking for seat belt violations. Free kids fest Saturday

A free kids fair will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Pioneer Park, 500 S. Fernandez Ave. in Arlington Heights. The event will include refreshments, a puppet show, raffle, story hour and soccer demonstrations, as well as interactive games and contests. State Sen.
