Spend tax rebates on food pantries

Demand is up at food pantries due to the downturn in the economy and increased food prices. At the same time, economic stimulus pay outs are being issued by the federal government.

I suggest people consider donating some of their stimulus money to a food pantry or better yet, to an umbrella organization such as the Greater Chicago Food Depository or America's Second Harvest. Those organizations have much greater purchasing power than individuals.

Not only will this help the hungry, it will put the money into our domestic economy, the goal of the economic stimulus plan.
