These students are full of character

Seventy Lake County public and parochial school students will be honored for contributions to their communities as part of an annual countywide program.

The students will receive Excellence in Character Awards from the Character Matters in Lake County group, a committee of the Lake County After School Coalition.

Students from schools in Gurnee, Vernon Hills, Antioch, Waukegan and Fox Lake are among those to be honored, organizers announced Wednesday. They will get certificates and medals at their individual schools' year-end awards programs.

The winning students were nominated by administrators and teachers at their schools.

The Excellence in Character Awards program was launched three years ago. This year's field of winners is the program's largest, committee leader Ashley Ward said.

The winners are:
