Fair puts focus on services for seniors
Senior citizens can mingle and learn about services they can take advantage of during the fourth annual Senior Day Fair in Addison.
Bloomingdale Senior Citizen Advisory Council and the Bloomingdale and Addison police departments are hosting the event for seniors older than 60 from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Medinah Shriners Banquet Facility, 550 N. Shriners Drive, Addison.
"This allows senior citizens to see what's available to them," Bloomingdale officer Dawn Odoi said. "It gives them an opportunity to ask questions about things they might not normally investigate on their own."
Organizers are expecting at least 200 seniors to attend. Illinois Secretary of State will be available to renew driver's licenses for people younger than 75 and issue state identification cards.
The Bloomingdale Lions Club will offer free hearing tests and collect used eyeglasses. Seniors also will be able to discuss health issues with health-care professionals on-site.
"This lets senior citizens know they have a lot of value and a lot of people are out there and want to give them a hand," Odoi said. "It's all about quality of life and enhancing it, because they're worth it."
Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be up for grabs every half hour.
