Hersey 2, Rolling Meadows 0
A familiar formula helped Hersey achieve one of its goals Monday night.
A Kristen Gierman corner kick led to the only goal the Huskies would need.
The defense and keeper Julia Fredian did the rest as they clinched their second Mid-Suburban East girls soccer title in three years with a 2-0 victory over visiting Rolling Meadows at Roland Goins Stadium.
"It was a huge goal," said Gierman, who has 13 assists. "It's a huge accomplishment to be able to work together as a team to get this. It was all hard work and pushing each other."
Jackie Drees scored off Gierman's corner. Amanda Slove sealed it with a goal with 6:08 left as Hersey (13-2-4, 7-1-2) clinched a spot in Thursday's 7 p.m. MSL Cup at West champion Fremd.
"I think it's our will to want the ball in the box to score," Gierman said of the Huskies' set-piece success. "We have players who want to put the ball in the back of the net. I know if I put it across someone will get on the end of it."
Fredian and the Huskies notched their 12th shutout as they hope to duplicate their 2-1 win two weeks ago at Fremd.
"It will take another massive effort to get the result against them," said Hersey coach Brad Abel. "We have to play with that same physical presence.
"It was fun to watch these girls get rewarded (with an East title)."
Senior keeper Katie Odon (18 saves) kept Meadows (9-6-3, 2-9) in it with numerous acrobatic saves. Junior Taylor Fritz also played her first game after tearing an ACL during basketball.
"The second half we played much better," said Meadows coach Jeff Adkins. "We played a team that's got a realistic shot at winning the entire conference and both goals were phenomenal shots.
"We got beat because of good shots and not because of us doing something wrong."
Fremd 2, Hoffman 0: Sara Schramm and Elise Kotsakis scored off Crystal Rohan assists and Allison Norenberg got the shutout for Fremd (14-2-1, 10-1) in the West.
Barrington 3, Conant 0: Mary Kubiuk, Kaitlin Denis and Lauren Decraene scored with Katie Goldrath getting 8 saves for Barrington (13-4-1) in the MSL West.
Prospect 2, BG 1: Goals by Susie Lello and Danielle Brucci led Prospect (5-2-4 MSL East).
St. Viator 7, Providence 0: Jackie Tumberger had a hat trick and Susan Szymczak scored 2 goals in Viator's East Suburban Catholic win.
Palatine 0, Schaumburg 0: Schaumburg's Maggie Kostecki (10 saves) and Palatine's Nicole Clark (5 saves) led the MSL West scoreless draw.
