Doctor wins top honor
Area cardiologist Vincent Bufalino has been awarded the American Heart Association's top honor, the Gold Heart Award. Bufalino, CEO and president of Midwest Heart Specialists and medical director of Edward Heart Hospital in Naperville, has been volunteering with the association for 25 years. He also is a past president of its former Greater Midwest Affiliate and a past member of the national board of directors. The group presented him with the award at a recent ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Construction in Addison
Addison's Community Development office this week is hosting community meetings at village hall on two major road construction projects. At 2 p.m. today, the discussion will be about the Fullerton East Project. The construction will see roadwork from Addison Road to Villa Avenue. The road will be closed to all eastbound traffic. Construction should begin soon and is expected to be finished by next spring. At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the discussion will be about the Grace Street Project. The water main from Belden Avenue to Fullerton Avenue will be replaced. The street will be resurfaced from Fullerton to just north of the railroad tracks. The road will be closed to all northbound traffic. The project should be finished in August or September.
Judge receives honor
DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Bonnie Wheaton was named Northern Illinois University's College of Law 2008 outstanding alumna. The award recognizes Wheaton for her "significant professional accomplishments and civic involvement." Wheaton graduated magna cum laude and first in her class in 1978. She has served the DuPage court system since being appointed an associate judge in 1988. She became a circuit judge in 1990. Among her civic connections, she served on the College of DuPage Foundation's board of directors until 2007 and was on the Wheaton Library board of directors. She also plays cello with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra and has been a member since 1971.
Library catalog upgrade
Naperville Public Library on Tuesday is kicking off a weeklong celebration of its upgraded library catalog. The catalog offers more Google-like searches and provides more complete results. Demonstrations planned for Tuesday are: 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Naper Boulevard Library, 2035 S. Naper Blvd.; 3 to 4:30 p.m. at 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive; and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave. The week includes giveaways and each day, patrons will be able to get yellow construction hats and buttons as they try out the catalog at www.naperville-lib.org. Police on Route 59 Friday
Area police departments will be conducting a traffic safety initiative along Route 59 on Friday. More than a dozen area departments will be looking out for speed, seat belt and other safety violations. The purpose of the initiative is to increase citizen safety through education and traffic enforcement.
