Man accused in kidnapping found in Mt. Prospect
A Charlottesville, Va., man wanted in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 12-year-old Virginia girl was arrested Tuesday in Mount Prospect.
The girl was returned to her family.
According to a statement released by the FBI Friday, Jeremias Chagala-Mil, 31, was arrested Tuesday by FBI special agents and Mount Prospect police. He and the girl were tracked to an apartment at 1978 W. Algonquin Road.
Chagala-Mil was handed over to the Cook County sheriff's police and is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
Calls to the FBI were not returned Friday evening. According to published reports in Charlottesville, the girl disappeared April 15 after returning home from school.
The Virginia State Police eventually issued an Endangered Missing Child Alert. Three days after the girl disappeared, police found Chagala-Mil's 1997 red Mitsubishi near his residence.
A search warrant filed April 16 by Charlottesville police show that police suspected Chagala-Mil had inappropriate relations with a minor.
