Animal Shelter fundraiser to have a Mexican flavor

Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin is hosting Cinco de Meow from 7 to 10:30 p.m. May 9 at Carmina's Mexican Restaurant, 10 N. Randall Road, Elgin.

Included will be Mexican hors d'oeuvres buffet, Margaritas and entertainment, which will include live music and a Latino dance group. Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the shelter, which provides temporary housing for homeless and abandoned animals, eliminating the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals and helping to curb pet overpopulation through its spay/neuter efforts.

Mastiff week: The Mastiff Club of America will hold a variety of events the week of May 5 at the Crystal Lake Holiday Inn, 800 S. Route 31. Meet 'n' Greet: In case you're reading this in time, Gurnee PetSmart, 6405 Grand Ave., will have a Greyhound Meet 'n' Greet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. People notes: Susan Christie of Antioch has been approved by AKC on a Provisional basis to judge collies and Shetland sheepdogs.

• Marcia Feld of Libertyville has been approved on a Provisional basis to judge Akitas, Alaskan malamutes, black Russian terriers, Komondorok, Kuvaszak, Rottweilers, Samoyeds and Siberian huskies.

• Louise Palarik of Wauconda completed her Provisional assignments and has been approved by AKC as a regular judge for Belgian tervuren, border collies, Bouviers des Flandres and Old English sheepdogs.

• Arlene King of Hoffman Estates completed her Provisional assignments and has been approved to judge Rally Advanced/Excellent.
