Marmion students garner writing awards
Eighteen Marmion Academy students were selected to have their work published in the English department's annual The Reverend Father Peter Enderlin OSB Writing Competition Literary Magazine. All Marmion students were eligible to submit manuscripts to the competition in the categories of poetry, fiction and essay.

Freshman/sophomore winners include: poetry first prize, Zane Holland of Big Rock with "Heavy Metal"; poetry second prize, John Mason of St. Charles with "Aspirations;" poetry honorable mention, Jeffrey Martin of St. Charles with "Saved;" fiction first prize, James Weiler of Aurora with "Family Counseling;" fiction second prize, Alonso Cisneros of Elburn with "The Lost City of Sitnalta;" fiction honorable mention, Kelan McDonnell of Winfield with "The Pogo Stick;" essay first prize, Andrew Koch of Aurora with "The Threshold;" essay second prize, Sanjay Prakadan of Aurora with "No, the Other Castro;" and essay honorable mention, Elliot Anderson of Geneva with "Political Dirtiness."
Junior/senior winners include: poetry first prize, Mitchell Thar of Winfield with "Bushels/Grey Rainbow/Adria;" poetry second prize, Colin Hirsch of Genoa with "All Is Calm;" poetry honorable mention, Christopher Antolak of St. Charles with "Nowhere;" essay first prize, Taylor Weis of Batavia with "The Complexity of Conscience is Not an Excuse;" essay second prize, Robert Stevenson of Naperville with "What's So Great about Evolution?;" essay honorable mention Michael Rios of North Aurora with "Not So Much an Old, Old Wooden Ship …;" fiction first prize, Timothy Handell of Aurora with "PJ;" fiction second prize, Thomas Hymel of Batavia with "The Test;" and fiction honorable mention, Justin Lovelace with "OHIMC."
All manuscripts submitted were judged by the members of Marmion's English department.
The competition is named for the late Enderlin OSB who dedicated his life to the students of Marmion. In his beloved sophomore honors English class he stressed writing above all.
