McHenry Co. DAR chapter honors student essays
The Kishwaukee Trail Chapter NSDAR, held its 41st Annual Honors Awards in Woodstock during American History Month.
Fifth- through eighth-grade students in McHenry County were invited to write an essay entitled, "I Spy: Espionage During the American Revolution" from the viewpoint of either a British loyalist or an American patriot.
Their essays of 600-1,000 words were written using reference materials and providing a bibliography. Judging was based on historical accuracy, adherence to topic, organization of material, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation and neatness.
Winners received an Kishwaukee Trail Chapter NSDAR American History Essay scholarship and award certificate.
All three students are enrolled in Woodstock's Heartland Home School Workshops. There were no winners from the fifth- and sixth-grade entries.
The NSDAR American History Award is given annually on local, state and national levels to foster an interest in, and understanding of, our nation's past.
