Wrap: Kaneland notches its 9th victory
Kaneland's Mallory Huml blanked the Sycamore softball team 4-0 on Tuesday, picking up her eighth win.
Vicki Mathieu went 2-for-3 with a triple for the Knights (9-2, 4-1).
DeKalb 7, Geneva 6: The Vikings (6-7, 3-2) dropped a tight WSC game in DeKalb. Melissa Barber batted 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Batavia 4, Rochelle 1: Brooke Nelson and Brooke Jancik both drove in a run for the Bulldogs (6-9, 3-2). Tara Batty won her third game.
Rosary 5, Driscoll 2: The Royals improved to 7-7 and a perfect 6-0 in the SCC. Courtney Clausen went 2-for-3 while Lauren McNally and Andi DeKing both tripled.
Baseball
St. Charles East 15, East Aurora 8: The Saints (5-9-1, 4-4-1) struck in the fifth by scoring seven runs, opening up a 6-run lead. Tom Lollino went 4-for-5 and Mike Hoscheit and Steve Schenck both tripled.
Geneva 5, Rochelle 4: Cory Hofstetter slugged his ninth homer of the year and Dan Rowe hit his seventh in the Vikings' (13-4, 6-4) home victory over Rochelle. Chris Jordan struck out 12 over seven innings and Ryan Payne picked up the win in relief.
Montini 9, Aurora Central Catholic 5:ŒTrailing 5-3 going to the bottom of the sixth, the Chargers (9-7, 1-6) scored twice to tie the score. But the Broncos countered with four in the seventh for the SCC win. Mark Adams and Pat Wondrak both had 2 hits.
Boys tennis
St. Charles North 5, Waubonsie Valley 2: The North Stars swept through the doubles matches. They are 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the UEC. David Johnson and Christian Hoskey won first doubles 6-2, 7-5 and Matt Baumann and Andrew Davis took second doubles 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
St. Charles East 4, Bartlett 3: The Hawks won two of three singles, but the Saints took three of four double matches. Yosh Patel and Kevin Veatch won first and second singles for Bartlett. Sam Gunther and Kirk Nelson took first doubles for the Saints (6-3, 5-1). Ryan McNally lost the first set of third singles in a tiebreaker before rallying to win the next two sets 6-0, 6-0.
Geneva 5, Yorkville 2: With its home win, Geneva is 7-2 in dual meets and 2-1 in conference play. Collin Rapp won second singles 6-1, 6-3.
Batavia 7, DeKalb 0: Jim White and Colin Bohr won first doubles 6-1, 6-2 and second singles Alex Haizmann took his match 6-2, 6-0.
Marmion 4, Montini 1: Tom Weiler took first singles in three sets while Bubba Weiler and Bobbie Fortier won first doubles 6-2, 6-1.
Boys volleyball
St. Charles East d. South Elgin 25-19, 25-17: Jeff Jones set 18 assists, Chris Brucher had a team-high 7 kills, and both blocked 3 shots for the Saints.
Girls soccer
Rosary 2, Immaculate Conception 0:ŒAllysa Allegretti tallied in the first half and Christine Dickerson added the insurance goal for the Royals (3-5-1, 3-1). Sarah Butz stopped 10 shots for the shutout.
West Aurora 2, Glenbard East 1: Ashley Malmgren scored on a penalty kick with 21 minutes as the Blackhawks (10-2-1, 2-1) knocked off the Rams in Aurora.
Girls track
Geneva 81.5, Kaneland 62.5, DeKalb 29: Erica Miller won the 100 and 400 dashes for Geneva. For Kaneland, Lindsay Gierke won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump.
Men's baseball
Lake County 10-1, Waubonsee 3-7:ŒIn Game 1, Lake County scored eight times in the fifth. Mike Ray batted 2-for-4 for the Chiefs (19-20, 6-7). In Game 2, Waubonsee starter Ryan Rende allowed 5 hits and 1 run. Ray added 3 more hits and scored 3 runs. Derek Kopko earned his seventh save.
Men's golf
NAC Spring Meet: With a team score of 313, Aurora won the NAC Spring Invite at the Stonebridge Country Club.
Cameron Parker was the individual winner, shooting an even-par 72. Mark Frantzen finished sixth with a 79.
Women's softball
Aurora 8-7, Dominican 0-1: In the opener, Anna Snyder (16-3) pitched four perfect innings and struck out 10 of 12 batters. Abby Young batted 3-for-3. The Spartans' (28-6, 21-1) stellar pitching continued in Game 2. Nicole Capone scattered 5 hits over 7 innings, struck out nine, and allowed 1 unearned run. Nikki Veen had 4 hits and Dana Cebular scored 3 runs.
Waubonsee 4-1, McHenry 3-10:ŒIn the opener, The Chiefs (13-17, 6-6) rallied in the seventh win 3 runs for a 1-run win. Haley Secor hit a game-tying double and Sam Ingo (3-for-4) had the game-winning RBI. Amanda Balaugh had a triple in Game 2 .
