Streamwood High

• On Tuesday at 7 p.m., a fashion show will be presented, by the Fashion Construction students under the direction of Nancy Gaa and Joan Boese in the high school auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. Admission is $4; children under 10 are free.

Kenyon Woods

• On Thursday, parents of sixth-graders from the feeder schools -- Clinton, Fox Meadow, Garfield, Liberty, Nature Ridge, Wayne, and Willard elementary -- will meet for orientation at 6:30 p.m. in the gym, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin.

Bartlett

• On Tuesday, Bartlett Elementary School students in first to third grade will present a Spring Sing at 7 p.m. at South Elgin High School, 760 E. Main St.

Coleman

• Today, a kindergarten orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Coleman Elementary School, 1220 Dundee Ave., Elgin.

Fox Meadow

• On Thursday, the sixth-grade students and the Chorus will present a Spring Sing at 7 p.m. at Fox Meadow Elementary School, 1275 Jenna Drive, South Elgin.

Garfield

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Garfield Elementary School, 420 May St., Elgin.

Harriet Gifford

• On Thursday, the students will present a Fine Arts Family Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Harriet Gifford Elementary School, 240 S. Clifton Ave., Elgin. Students in fifth and sixth grade will perform their own musical "Bring a Book to Life." Students in grades 3-4 will perform a hilarious production of "Go Fish!" Families can participate in fun art projects.

Laurel Hill

• On Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m., the school and Hanover Township Youth & Family Services will host a Community Resource Fair in the Laurel Hill Elementary School gym, 1750 Laurel Ave., Hanover Park. This fair will provide the opportunity to learn about some community resources that are available to families. Have some fun, learn about the community of Hanover Park and meet the neighbors. Liberty

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Liberty Elementary School, 121 Naperville Road, Bartlett.

Lords Park

• On Tuesday, Lords Park Elementary students will present a Spring Sing at 7 p.m. at the Elgin High School auditorium, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin.

McKinley

• On Thursday, a Spring Sing will be presented at 7 p.m. at the Elgin High School auditorium, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin.

Sheridan

• On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Sheridan Elementary School, 510 Franklin Blvd., Elgin.

Timber Trails

• On Wednesday, spring pictures will be taken during the day at Timber Trails Elementary School, 1675 McDonough Road, Hoffman Estates. Also, the student council is sponsoring a book drive that will continue through Literacy Night on May 1. The books will be given to children ages 0-18 in foster care or other at-risk situations.

Wayne Elementary

• On Tuesday, the performing group called Child's Play will bring student written stories to life during an assembly.

Willard Elementary

• Today, the Willard Elementary students will present a Spring Sing at South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St. Students in grades K-3 will perform at 6:30 p.m. Students in grades 4-6 will perform at 7:30 p.m.

In other news

• Students from Elgin, Larkin and Streamwood high schools competed in a state competition held by the Illinois chapter of Health Occupations Student Association. More than 570 students from around Illinois competed in the event.

U-46 had a total of 113 students in the Top 10 in their respective competition areas. Competitions are held in the areas of health sciences, health professions, emergency preparedness, leadership, teamwork, and recognition.

The topics covered everything from Medical Math to a Biomedical Debate. U-46 students won 29 first-place, 31 second-place and 24 third-place awards. Three teams from Elgin High placed first in the categories of medical reading, biomedical debate and the HOSA bowl.

• Elgin High School: Human Growth and Development (knowledge test): Lisa Rizzo; Nutrition (knowledge test): Shoaib Rashid; Medical math: Riti Chokshi; Medical photography: Leah Vercelli; medical spelling: Nicole Callsen; medical terminology: Sarah Clark; safety test: Sarah Clark; medical reading (team competition): Michelle Drymiller, Gurveer Raju, and Sara Wilson; Biomedical Debate (team competition): Stephen Lokos, Lisa Rizzo, Jilian Scott and Leah Vercelli; CPR/First Aid (team competition): Naheed Ahmad and Ayleen Vargas; HOSA Bowl: Riti Chokshi, Sarah Clark, Issac Dupree, and Nikil Satish.

• Larkin High School: Pathophysiology (knowledge test): Alyssa Bradley.

• Streamwood High School: Administrative Medical Assisting: Gemini Bhimani; Biotechnology: Trez Norwood; Extemporaneous Health Poster: Erin Tienhaara; Kaiser Permanente Healthcare Issues Exam: Arielle Gallione; Personal Care: Katherine Wrona; Physical Therapy: Tommy Sagadraca; Sports Medicine: Arielle Gallione; and Veterinary Assisting: Erin Tienhaara.
