Chatham Glenwood 1, Wauconda 0
Alyssa Boisvert's first goal is proving to be a little more difficult than she'd prefer.
Boisvert plays stopper for Wauconda but occasionally moves up to take free kicks. She made the most of an opportunity Friday night for Wauconda and struck a shot that seemed destined for the back of the net -- until an outstretched arm by Chatham Glenwood keeper Caitlyn Moody got in the way.
"I've been trying since the beginning of the season," said Boisvert. "I've been close … . I guess it was a good save on a good shot. I really did think it was going in. I put my head down, hit it well."
Wauconda girls soccer hoped to stay unbeaten but Chatham Glenwood earned a 1-0 victory in the Prospect girls soccer tournament Friday in Prospect Heights.
The Bulldogs (6-1-2, 1-1) lost for the first time this season. Wauconda had defeated Crystal Lake South 3-2 Thursday night in a shootout.
Wauconda will need to wait until after Chatham Glenwood (8-1, 1-0) plays Crystal Lake South at 10:40 this morning to see if it still has a chance to play in the title game. The Bulldogs could still make it there if the Gators win and Wauconda survives the three-way tiebreaker.
Boisvert's free kick was in the final 20 seconds of the first half from 25 yards out and would've given Wauconda momentum going into halftime.
Instead, Moody (9 saves) knocked away a potential tying goal.
"Our focus this past week was on high balls," Moody said. "I just kind of got up there. It was floating toward the outside. So I sprinted real hard to get over there."
The Titans got their winning goal in the 15th minute when Ali Traina took a pass from Erin Egolf.
"Credit to (Wauconda) -- they battled and have some nice players," said Chatham Glenwood coach Jay Lipe, whose team made the trip from outside of Springfield for the first time. "Moody made some key saves for us in the first half and kept us in it.
"Wauconda plays differently than the teams we play. They a lot more direct, physical and challenge for the ball. We just haven't played our toughest part of the schedule yet. This was a good match for us."
Wauconda is in a stretch of playing several games in a row.
"I don't think we had the zip from last night," Wauconda coach Terry Stevig said. "I think the late game (Thursday night) took something out of us. Still, I thought we played pretty well.
"Chatam Glenwood is No. 1 in their own sectional and a tough team. The game could've gone either way."
