Grease is the word this weekend at Huntley High

Do you hear that snapping sound coming from Huntley?

No, it isn't someone cracking their car's axle on one of our many giant potholes.

Huntley High School kicks off two weekends of "Grease" at the Huntley High School Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. today, Saturday and next Friday and Saturday. They'll also perform at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Between the snap of fingers and bubble gum, it's back to the '50s for plenty of jive and jitterbugging. Check it out at 13719 Harmony Road. It's $6 for students and seniors and $8 for adults.

Name your pothole

Lots of you have been hearing the snap of your cars hitting some whopper potholes across the Chicago area.

One reader said he hit one so big it's being considered as the eighth wonder of the world, dwarfed only by the Grand Canyon. A Huntley reader tells me the pothole on Main Street in her town is so deep, they've called in the Reef Rovers Skin and Scuba Club for a cleanup dive.

Have you got a whopper of a tale to top their entries in our "Worst pothole ... ever" contest?

You've got until 5 p.m. today to get those entries in for your chance to win a free fish fry dinner at the West Dundee VFW Post 2298, which has donated two fish fry dinners for two. Mark it "Pothole" and send it to amack@dailyherald.com or call and leave a message at (847) 931-5725.

Please be sure to include your name, town and phone number.

In the closet

Hey, are you looking for a bargain on clothes these penny-pinching days? Check out My Best Friend's Closet, an upscale women and juniors consignment boutique that celebrates the grand opening of their new, bigger spot at 10 a.m. Saturday at 3955 W. Algonquin Road.

That's at the corner of Algonquin and Square Barn roads. Marianne Evans tells me it's three times the size of their already-popular store. They also carry maternity clothes and have a whole section for juniors, including prom dresses.

Pups and chips

Does your pup have a microchip? How about those rabies shots? Debra Quackenbush of the McHenry County Health Department tells me you can get both at the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center's special event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at its new facility, 100 N. Virginia St., Crystal Lake. That's Route 14 for you non-Crystal Lakers. Take Randall Road north to McHenry Avenue, go left to Route 14/Virginia and turn left after about a mile. It'll be on your left. Rabies shots are $10 and microchips are $15. You can also save on your one-year registration fees.

Sound of music

Gus Leep of the Presbyterian Church of Barrington invites us all to a special performance by the Glen Ellyn Children's Choir at 4 p.m. Sunday at 6 Brinker Road on the corner of Brinker and Lake-Cook roads in Barrington. They're holding a vocal workshop for children in second to senior year in high school at 1:15 p.m. Call (847) 381-0975 for info.
