Briefs: Students out after threat in Mount Prospect

About half of the students at Holmes Junior High in Mount Prospect stayed home from school Tuesday after parents were warned about a threatening message found on a girls bathroom wall late Monday. Students who did attend classes Tuesday had their bags searched by police on the way into the building, but school officials said the day otherwise proceeded without incident. School officials and police continue to probe who was responsible for the threat, which referenced a violent event happening at school Tuesday. Officials said they had no reason to believe the message was meant as anything more than a prank but, out of caution, notified parents through an electronic broadcast system Monday and gave them the option of keeping their children out of school with excused absences. School will be held as usual again today, with the extra security measures continuing.
