Briefs: Dist. 300 board OKs two-year terms
The Community Unit District 300 school board voted this week to extend the terms of school board officers from one year to two years. Starting in April 2009, after the next school board election, the board president, vice president and secretary will serve two-year terms. The measure passed by a 5-2 vote, with board members Mary Warren and Karen Roeckner opposing the move. Warren said one-year terms allow new board members to have a voice in board leadership. Under the Illinois School Code, two-year terms are standard for board officers, but districts have the choice to adopt one-year terms.
