See vintage fashion at history museum

In spring, thoughts turn to fashion. Right?

If they do, the McHenry County Historical Society Museum 6422 Main St., Union, will be the place to be at 2 p.m. April 21.

Harvard Vintage Clothing Collector Janet Harlow will present the fourth and final program in the historical society's annual Sample Lecture Series. Titled, "The Way We Wore," Harlow's talk will include models wearing period clothing and relating stories of women's lives and fashions between the 1940s and 1970s.

Harlow began collecting period accessories and clothing at garage sales in part because they reminded her of things her mother wore. Opportunities at her church provided the chance to show off some of her possessions which she has continued to do for other groups.

Members of the audience are encouraged to wear vintage clothing and/or accessories, especially those with a personal story.

Admission to "The Way We Wore" costs $10 and can be paid at the door.

The Defenders can earn 5 percent of what you spend April 21-23 at any Jewel Osco.

There's no limit to the amount the Defenders can raise; it depends entirely on the interest, enthusiasm and participation of community members.
