Jacobs earns Showdown win
Jacobs' girls soccer team used goals from four different players Saturday to defeat Whitney Young 4-0 in a Pepsi Showdown game played at Oak Park-Rover Forest.
Jessica Perrone, Alyssa Barnard, Kelsey Quitschau and Maria Tamburino each contributed a goal for the Golden Eagles (2-6), while Ashley Bliznick and Alyssa Quitschau each had an assist.
K.C. Roller also had 2 assists for the Golden Eagles and Caitie Quitschau was in the net, collecting 2 saves.
Girls soccer
Dundee-Crown 1, Morton 1: The Chargers (1-4-2) ended in a tie against Morton in nonconference play. The referee allowed Morton a penalty kick after the game was called, which led to the tie. Dundee-Crown's Karen De La Rosa scored the only goal prior to the penalty kick. She was assisted by Kailyn Quinn. Deanna Libricz was in goal tallying 12 saves for the Chargers.
Larkin 0, Vernon Hills 0: The Royals (2-5-2) battled Vernon Hills to a scoreless tie in a Pepsi Showdown game. Anna Goodlove had 2 saves in goal for Larkin.
College baseball
Scipione earns honor: Gaining the first Judson University baseball award for the 2008 season is junior Zach Scipione, who was named NCCAA National Co-Player of the Week. Scipione hit over .500 in six games, had a .632 slugging percentage, and recorded nine RBI.
He had 3 hits versus Indiana-Northwest and Illinois Tech and had 4 RBI in two games against Indiana Northwest. Prior to the Cardinal Stritch series, Scipione had an 11-game hitting streak.
