Hockey
Stevenson vs. Naperville: The Stevenson Patriots JV hockey team won its fourth straight game overall and its second in the Illinois State High School Hockey championship by defeating Naperville North 7-1 to advance to the tournament quarterfinals.
Two minutes into the game, sophomore defenseman Justin Krupp carried the puck the length of the ice and scored. It appeared the puck deflected off of the stick of forward Marc Weiner, but the goal went to Krupp. With under six minutes to play in the first period, Krupp scored again after passes from Myles Lobus and Brad Levinson. He followed up with a goal after a cross ice pass from Kollin Fairbanks, with six seconds to play in the period. Naperville's chances to score were stopped by goalie Josh Schmaren.
In the second period, Stevenson scored four more goals by Tyler St. Martin, Justin One, Marc Weiner and Wayne Glickstern, to expand the lead to 7-0. In the third period, Naperville scored early for the final score of 7-1.
The win over Naperville sent the Stevenson JV team to the Elite Eight in the state competition.
