Lord of Life Lutheran Church welcomes new minister
Lord of Life Lutheran Church and the Schaumburg community will welcome the Rev. Thad Fisher when he's installed as the church's new pastor Sunday by Metropolitan Chicago Lutheran Synod Bishop, the Rev. Wayne Miller.
Fisher's bio says he's a New Jersey native who graduated from Rutgers University with a Spanish degree before moving to St. Paul to attend seminary.
That's where he met his wife Nancy, to whom he's been married 14 years. They have three children.
Though his first pastoral assignment was in Illinois, most of Fisher's time since has been in Texas, where he served as pastor of several churches, a chaplain and a schoolteacher.
Fisher says his two biggest passions in his work are conducting youth and family ministries and preaching. In his spare time, he's a movie and mystery buff.
Fisher succeeds Interim Pastor the Rev. Frederick Hill and the previous pastor of 22 years, the Rev. David Langseth, who retired in 2006.
Kidney transplant needed: Another Schaumburg house of worship, Church of the Holy Spirit, along with Living Lord Lutheran Church in Bartlett, are raising funds Saturday to help fund a kidney transplant for 21-year-old Hanover Park resident Zuleica Arano Estrada.
She's been battling end-stage renal disease for eight years, spending her nights on dialysis. She now needs a transplant.
Estrada's older brother also died of kidney disease 18 years ago at age 15 when the family was living in Veracruz, Mexico.
The Candlelight Bowl benefit starts with a buffet dinner at 8:30 p.m. followed by bowling at 9:30 p.m. at Woodview Lanes, 11 Woodview Drive, Elgin.
Tickets cost $25, which includes dinner, three games of bowling and shoe rental. There also will be raffle prizes.
Tickets are available at both churches. For information, call Sister Marianne Supan at Church of the Holy Spirit at (847) 882-7580 or e-mail Marianne.S@churchoftheholyspirit.org.
Buttery wins grant: Schaumburg trustees have awarded a $58,000 grant from the village's Historic Building Restoration Grant program to repair and reconstruct the buttery building at 105 S. Roselle Road.
The grant covers half the cost of the project, which lies within the tax increment financing district the village established in 1989. The other half will be paid by the building's current owner.
The grant program was established in 2003 help restore landmark structures in the Olde Schaumburg Centre District.
The program was inspired by a desire to assist with the restoration of the roof and steeple of the St. Peter Lutheran Church chapel at 208 E. Schaumburg Road.
That project became the first recipient of the matching funds grant.
