Register early for summer camp

Early bird registration is under way for The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department's summer camp, FuntastiCAMP.

Camp officially begins in June, but if you register by May 1, you'll save up to $10 off per session. Space is limited, so register early.

Due to overwhelming demand, the parks department is now offering one-week sessions in both full- and half-day camp. Extended time options also are available for those working parents with demanding schedules.

This primarily outdoor program, housed at Hannah Martin Elementary School, includes weekly themes/parties, swimming at Woods Creek Lake, one field trip per session, sports, games, crafts and tons of fun. The energetic, experienced counselors ensure your children are safe, happy and entertained all summer long. Stop by or call the Parks & Recreation Department at (847) 960-7460 or visit Web site www.lith.org for more details.

Library hosts first author night

The Crystal Lake Public Library's first Local Author Night is planned from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 14 in the Ames Meeting Room at the library, 126 Paddock St.

The fair is free and no registration is required.

Visitors will find more than 15 authors waiting to chat with them. The writers will have copies of their books for sale and will be happy to sign them for you. All authors are from the Crystal Lake area and their works include poetry, cookbooks, fiction, history, self-help, memoirs and more.

"There'll be something for almost any reader's tastes in the fair lineup," said Jan Polep, head of Adult Services. "The idea for the fair came about as library staff discovered more and more local authors and thought it would be fun to do an evening showcase of as many as our space will allow. We hope you'll join us to meet these selected local authors in person and ask them your questions."
