McHenry County church moves to Cary

The 10-year-old McHenry County Church of Religious Science Center for Spiritual Evolution has relocated from Crystal Lake to the former Methodist church building on 204 Spring St, in Cary, which they will share with other tenants.

The church held its first service in its new, permanent home on April 6.

As a belief system, Religious Science Churches assert their practical "New Thought" methods create positive life changes. Through the use of a prayer technique called "spiritual mind treatment," an individual's consciousness (belief about self) changes.

Adherents claim that this application of spiritual psychology, also called "affirmative prayer," activates universal laws such as the "Law of Attraction," which become personalized. Renewed perceptions about any life situation create greater likelihood for desired outcomes, they say.

The church's "Visioning Team" visualized a new location for more than two years. Additionally, there were two Sunday workshop services in the past year devoted exclusively to sharing their Visioning process with the congregation.

"During these times of visioning together as a congregation," Rev. Anne Muelleman explained, "we drew pictures and recorded on paper the vision Spirit revealed to us. Many attributes which were visioned have materialized."

The new rented space offers increased seating capacity and features beautiful refinished flooring in a contemporary loft setting flooded with natural light, vaulted ceiling, raised platform and staging area, separate areas for both children and toddlers, and a kitchen.

Religious Science was founded in 1926 by Dr. Ernest Holmes. It is a New Thought spiritual philosophy popularized during the Transcendentalist movement of the late 1800s. Ernest Holmes, who coined the expression "Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life," is one of the most famous New Thought writers. His book, "Science of Mind," is the foundational text for Religious Scientists. Holmes presents the correlation of the laws of science, opinions of philosophy and revelations from many religions.

Science of Mind Centers are 'trans-denominational,' accepting people from any religious tradition or philosophy. They teach that a Spiritual Universe can empower people to focus thoughts, energy and attention in a positive direction. This trajectory of thought controls emotional states which reshapes life circumstances including health, wealth, creative self-expression and relationships.

The MCCRS Center is also creating a diverse community by offering classes, workshops and ministry activities. Space is available for rental during the week to healing professionals and spiritual practitioners. For information visit http://www.mewthoughtmchenry.org or call (815) 444-0942.
