Baseball

Spring camps: Elmhurst Youth Baseball, Elmhurst Extreme Baseball and Fastball USA are teaming up for a spring throwing/pitching camp for 7- to 12-year-olds from 6 to 8 p.m. April 11 and 4 to 6 p.m. April 12. A step-by-step approach to throwing and pitching mechanics will be followed. The camp, held at Fastball USA in Elmhurst, will be run by a Fastball USA instructor with assistance from Elmhurst Extreme 12-year-old team and Blackbelt pitching students.

Basketball

Tournament champions: The Eighth-Grade Boys Carmel Feeder team won their third tournament title of the season in Union Grove, Wis. Carmel beat Zion and Main South and beat The Racine Angels 55-47 in the Championship game to capture the crown for the second time in three years.

Defensively Carmel was led by Hutch Herchenbach who tallied 5 steals in the finale. Connor Jordan led all scorers with 16. Earlier this season coach Dennis Bruns moved seventh-grade guard Matt Mooney up to the eighth-grade squad. Mooney had a breakout tournament including two big steals and two back-to-back three pointers in the Championship game. Mooney, Sean Boban and Ben Bruns also scored in double figures for the Corsairs.

Football

Summer camps: Chicago Bears Youth Football Camps will be offered in June and July. The camps are non-contact day camps for young people ages 6 to 14 intended to teach athletic, football and life skills for young athletes. Local camps include the following:

• June 16 to 20 -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., St. Alphonsus Church, 411 Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights.

• June 23 to 27 -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Barbara Rose School, 61 W. Penny Road, Barrington.

• July 7 to 11 -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Campanelli YMCA, 300 W. Wise Road, Schaumburg.

• July 14 to 18 -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Poe School, 2800 N. Highland Ave., Arlington Heights.

• July 14 to 18 -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Laura B. Sprague School, 2425 Riverwoods Drive, Lincolnshire.

• July 21 to 25 -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Barbara Rose School, 61 W. Penny Road, Barrington.

• July 21 to 25 -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Highland School, 310 W. Rockland Road, Libertyville.

Sign up by April 11 and save $25 on the summer camp registration. Each camp maintains a 10-to-1 student-to-instructor ratio. First-aid trained staff and an athletic trainer are available at all camps to ensure a safe and healthy experience.

Swimming

CATS Aquatics tryouts: Registration and tryouts for the CATS Aquatics Swim Team spring/summer sessions will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 14 at Vernon Hills High School, 145 N. Lakeview Parkway. Online registration will be available or attend the walk-in registration from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 15 near the pool at Libertyville High School, 708 W. Park Ave. Several swim sessions will be offered. Sign up for one or all of the sessions. Session one begins April 16.

The CATS Aquatics Swim Team provides swimmers age 5 through college age to develop at all levels of competitive and developmental swimming. The team is the feeder program to District 128 high schools and welcomes athletes from other areas. Check the Web site for more information at www.cats-aquatics.com.
