Larkin High

• On Friday and Saturday, the musical "The Pirates of Penzance," will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Tickets are $8 per person and can be purchased in the school treasurer's office for reserved seating. Tickets also will be available at the door on the evening of the performances. The musical also will be presented April 18-19.

South Elgin High

• On Friday and Saturday, "The Music Man" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St. There also will be a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for students, and toddlers 5 and under are free.

Streamwood High

• Thursday through Saturday, the spring musical, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Streamwood High School auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. Tickets are $6 per student or senior citizen, and $8 per adult.

Eastview Middle

• On Thursday, the sixth-grade band students from the feeder elementary schools (Bartlett, Centennial, Hawk Hollow, Prairieview, Spring Trail, and Sycamore Trails) will join the Eastview Middle School Band to play the national anthem at the Kane County Cougars game.

Ellis Middle

• On Friday, the spring dance will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ellis Middle School, 225 S. Liberty St., Elgin.

Kenyon Woods Middle

• On Thursday, the Daddy/Daughter Dance will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Kenyon Woods Middle School cafeteria, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin. Tickets are $30 per couple.

Tefft Middle

• On Tuesday through Thursday, the musical "Once Upon a Mattress" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Tefft Middle School auditorium, 1100 Shirley Ave., Streamwood. Tickets are $3 per student or $5 per adult, and will be available at the door.

• On Friday, the school dance will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria

Bartlett

• On Monday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Bartlett Elementary School, 111 North Ave., Bartlett.

Clinton

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Clinton Elementary School, 770 Mill St., South Elgin.

Fox Meadow

• On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Fox Meadow Elementary School, 1275 Jenna Drive, South Elgin.

Hanover Countryside

• On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Hanover Countryside Elementary School, 6 S. Bartlett Road, Streamwood.

Harriet Gifford

• Support Harriet Gifford Elementary School in Elgin from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday by dining at McDonald's on Larkin Avenue, for McCare Night.

Hilltop

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Hilltop Elementary School, 1855 Rohrssen Road, Elgin.

Huff

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Huff Elementary School, 801 Hastings St., Elgin.

Lowrie

• On Wednesday through Friday, the sixth-graders at Lowrie Elementary School in Elgin will attend White Pines Ranch in downstate Oregon to study outdoor education. They will participate in horseback riding, hiking, orienteering and wilderness survival.

• On Friday, the PTA is sponsoring an assembly on Search and Rescue, featuring dogs in K-9 units.

Nature Ridge

• On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Nature Ridge Elementary School, 1899 Westridge Blvd., Bartlett.

Prairieview

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 9 a.m. at Prairieview Elementary School, 10N630 Nesler Road in Elgin.

Spring Trail

• On Tuesday, a Cub Scout Roundup will take place at 7 p.m. in the Spring Trail Elementary School Commons, 1384 Spring Valley Drive, Carol Stream. All troops from the school will participate, and welcome new recruits.

Sycamore Trails

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Sycamore Trails Elementary School, 1025 Sycamore Lane, Bartlett.

Washington

• On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Washington Elementary School, 819 W. Chicago St., Elgin.

In other news

• On Saturday, Boy Scout Troop 10 will be hosting its annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 330 Griswold St. in Elgin. Tickets are $6 each, or $5 for seniors 60 and older. The troop includes boys from Century Oaks, Huff, and Lords Park elementary schools; Ellis and Kimball middle schools, and Elgin and Larkin high schools.
