Saints 3rd, Stars 7th at St. Charles N. invite

Benet edged out Conant for the team title 115 points to 103 Saturday at the St. Charles North girls track invitational.

St. Charles East took third with 91.5. For the Saints, Rachel Banner won the high jump at 5-2. They had second place finishes from Ali Devor in the discus and shot put, Maya Rittmanic in the long jump, Jessica Nier (300 hurdles) and Arielle Parker (400 dash).

The North Stars finished seventh. Erica Baurerbach took third in the 3,200 and Laura Ducharme finished third in the 400 dash. As a team, they finished third in the 400 relay.

Baseball

West Aurora 2, Oswego 1: Winning pitcher Chris Richter pitched six innings, allowing 1 run, 8 hits, and striking out seven for the Blackhawks (6-2). Brady Renner's fifth-inning single scored Jeff Etter, and that proved to be the game-winner. Jesse Pena threw a scoreless seventh for the save.

Batavia 15, Waubonsie Valley 5: The Bulldogs (5-3) jumped ahead early with six runs in the first inning. Jordan Coffey homered and was the winning pitcher. Ryan Welter knocked a pair of doubles.

St. Charles North 4, Prairie Ridge 1:ŒDanny Jimenez allowed no hits over five innings and fanned seven batters. San Weinberg scored twice and picked up the save.

Hoffman Estates 4, St. Charles East 1: Steve Schenck collected 2 hits for the Saints (2-4).

Aurora Central Catholic 16-5, Hinckley-Big Rock 5-4:ŒThe Chargers used an 11-run fourth inning to storm to victory in Game 1. Mark Adams went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs and 2 stolen bases. Mike Adams went 3-for-3 and Mark Brauweiler added 3 hits and 2 runs.

In the second game, Davis Luna pitched six innings before Mike Adams slammed the door with 3 strikeouts. In addition to the save, Adams also went 3-for-4 with a homer.

Boys tennis

Downers Grove North Invite: Batavia went 3-1, defeating Larkin, Oak Lawn and the hosts, and falling to Prairie Ridge. First doubles Jim White and Colin Bohr won all four of their matches in straight sets.

Hoffman Estates Invite: Geneva finished 3-0, defeating Jacobs, Belvidere and Hoffman Estates. Second doubles Joey Rasich and Mike Fellicelli as well as first singles Chris Fowler and third doubles Robby Parker and Richie Michaels all went undefeated in their matches.

Boys volleyball

St. Charles East Invite: Hinsdale Central won the title with a 25-14, 25-18 win over Oswego in the finals. St. Charles East finished fourth with a 3-2 record. The Saints' Jeff Jones was named to the All-Tournament team. For the five matches, he had 102 assists, 16 blocks, 11 kills and 7 aces.

Softball

West Aurora 12, Plainfield North 7:ŒLeadoff hitter Devin Vaughn got the Blackhawks (8-0) going early with a homer in the first. They scored five more runs in the first inning. Brooke Gossett had a double and 3 RBI. On the mound, Stephanie Becker won her sixth game.

Geneva 9, Oswego East 1: Melissa Barber doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Vikings (2-3). Kelly McCaffrey pitched the distance, allowing 2 hits, 4 walks and no earned runs.

Kaneland 7, Plainfield South 5: The Knights are 4-1 on the year and Mallory Huml has been the winning pitcher in all of them.

Girls soccer

St. Charles North 2, Hersey 0: Alyssa Peterson had a goal and an assist for the North Stars in the Pepsi Tournament.

West Aurora 1, Kaneland 0: Madison Pickett scored the game-winner off a Raquel Rodriguez assist in the 61st minute. The Blackhawks are 2-0 in the West Aurora tournament and 5-0-1 overall. Sophie Blank made 12 saves for Kaneland.

Men's baseball

Waubonsee 2-13, Morton 1-7:ŒWith their sweep over Morton, the Chiefs are 9-14. Game 1 saw Jerry Hernandez and Derek Kopko combine for 9 strikeouts, while allowing 4 hits.

The offense went to work in the second game. Jordan Kohler had 2 hits, including a triple, and 3 RBI while three other players collected 2 hits each. Kopko recorded saves in both games.

Aurora 18-9, Milwaukee Engineering 8-8:ŒThe Spartans (10-10, 3-3) banged 18 hits in Game 1. David Warner went 2-for-3 with a home run, 4 RBI and 3 runs. Joe Infantino had 2 doubles and scored 3 runs while Martin Diaz batted 3-for-5 with 3 runs and 3 RBI.

Kirk Williamson and Steve Brauer hit homers for Aurora in Game 2. Diaz added a double and 3 more RBI. On the mound, Chris Koudelka pitched 2 hitless innings in relief for his second save.

Women's softball

Aurora 13-18, Maranatha Baptist 0-0: For the day, Dana Cebular scored 3 runs and cleanup hitter Shannon Starr drove in four baserunners. Starters Anna Snyder and Nicole Capone picked up the wins for Aurora (11-5, 4-0).
