BG gets started with split; Viator stays hot with sweep
John Wendell had a long wait to finally start his 23rd and final season before retiring as Buffalo Grove's baseball coach.
But the Bison, who reached last year's Class AA Elite Eight, finally hit the field for their first games Saturday at Highland Park.
And they came away with a split as they rebounded from a 15-9 loss in the opener to pound out 16 hits and 3 homers for a 16-3 victory in 5 innings.
In the second game, Matt Stadler (3-for-3) and Paul Timko homered and drove in 3 runs and Eastern Illinois-bound shortstop Zach Borenstein was 2-for-3 with a homer.

Winner Josh Serrano, Matt Soch and Sam Cochiaro had 2 hits apiece.
Leyden also came back from an early deficit in the second game and Tim Mackey's 2-run homer in the fifth broke a 4-4 tie. Mackey, Soch and Natale had 2 hits.

W. Chicago 9, Elk Grove 8: Chris D'Angelo homered and Matt Czurylo went 3-for-4 for Elk Grove (2-5).
