King scores 2 as Knights make team history
Quite a night for the Knights.
Grayslake North's soccer girls made some team history Thursday.
The Knights blanked visiting Zion-Benton 2-0 for the first regular-season win and first shutout in their two-year existence.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore forward Audra King scored a pair of goals. The first came on a corner kick from senior midfielder Jackie Staszczak. Junior midfielder Elese Merkovsky set up the second goal, as King dribbled around the keeper and placed the ball into an open net.
"The girls really played well in all aspects of our game," said North coach Adam DeCaluwe, whose team evened its record at 1-1. "The entire team started to show many signs of just how good this team can really be.
"After just four or five practices outside, the girls are really starting to look comfortable in the outdoor conditions, and it really showed today."
