Geneva cruises on first day of SCE invitational
Madeline Tennant scored twice in the Geneva girls soccer team's 4-0 win over Schaumburg Wednesday at the St. Charles East Invite.
Krista Jezior and Elise Farrelly also scored for Geneva (2-0).
The Vikings will play again tonight at 5 p.m. against Naperville Central, followed by St. Charles East against Schaumburg.
Baseball
St. Charles East 5, McHenry 2:ŒMike Hoscheit paced the Saints' (1-3) offense with a double and 3 RBI. Winning pitcher Kyle Wiebe allowed 2 runs over six innings.
Lockport 12, West Aurora 7: DJ Smith got the Blackhawks off to a hot start with a 3-run homer in the top of the first. They scored six runs over the first two innings, but Lockport (6-1) had too much offense. Brady Renner batted 3-for-3 in the leadoff spot for West Aurora (4-2).
Rochelle 11, Batavia 9:ŒThe Bulldogs scored in every inning except the first. But trailing 5-4 in the fifth, the Hubs scored six times in the bottom half. Mike Sentman and Brad Brandenburg homered for the Bulldogs.
Post 342 seeks players:ŒThe St. Charles American Legion Post 342 baseball team is seeking players between the age of 16 to 19 who reside in St Charles, Geneva and Batavia for the 2008 summer season.

Boys tennis
Glenbard North 6, St. Charles East 1: First double Sam Gunther and Kirk Nelson picked up the Saints' (0-1) only win in Carol Stream.
Geneva 6, Plainfield Central 1: The Vikings swept doubles and took two of three singles in their home win. First doubles Pat Coveney and Wes Kappel took their match 6-4, 6-2 and second doubles Joey Rasich and Mike Fellicelli won 6-0, 2-6, 7-6.
Softball
St. Charles East 12, Waubonsie Valley 2 (6 innings):Œ Highlighted by a 7-run fifth inning, the Saints (2-3, 1-0) steamrolled the Warriors in Aurora. Victoria Perez homered, doubled and pitched four innings for the win. Rebecca Reinbold added a double and a triple.
Kaneland 9, Hoffman Estates 3: Mallory Huml hurled six innings for the Knights, allowing 2 runs and 1 walk. Lindsay Hansen batted 2-for-3 with a double and Jessica Lubic homered.
Women's softball
Aurora 7-9, Rockford 1-2: The Spartans (9-5, 2-0) swept Rockford on the road in an NAC doubleheader. In Game 1, Anna Snyder pitched all seven innings, limiting the Regents to 3 hits and 1 run. Abby Young had 3 hits and Gabby Smith homered.
The second game saw Aurora score five runs in the fifth to blow the game open. Smith hit her second homer of the day and Nikki Veen and Shannon Starr also went deep. Nicole Capone pitched six innings for the win.
