Briefs: Student scholars named
Two students at Dundee-Crown High School -- Courtnee Gonzalez and Sonalia Ramirez -- have been named Golden Apple Scholars. The Golden Apple Foundation will help the students with four-year college tuition and provide mentoring and other resources. In exchange, the students will teach for five years in low-income and underperforming schools in Illinois. This year's 125 Illinois Scholars will be honored at 4 p.m. April 12 at the at DePaul University Student Center.
Learn about liquor laws
The Algonquin Police Department will lead a training class that teaches alcohol sellers how to spot phony identification cards, who to serve, who not to serve and state laws that govern alcohol sales. The class costs $35 and starts at 8 a.m. April 22. Anyone 18 years and older can take the class. Registration is necessary. Call (847) 658œ2720.
Donate items to prom store
Wednesday is the final day you can donate to Dundee-Crown High School's Prom Fashion Store. The store is asking for new and gently used formalwear, which it will sell to students attending prom at affordable prices. All items will cost $20 or less. The second annual prom store, sponsored by the high school's Beta Club, aims to help students defray the rising cost of attending prom. Call (847) 426-1799 or bring items to the Dundee-Crown counseling department. Items will be on sale at the school from Thursday through April 12.
