• Anne Chapman, a soprano and junior at Libertyville High School, was chosen as the winner of the Tower Chorale 2008 High School Vocal Competition. As the contest winner, Anne will be awarded $200 and will be featured as a soloist at the Tower Chorale Concert, "Let's Go to the Movies" at 7 p.m. April 26, on the Reber Center stage, at Lyons Township High School North in La Grange.
• Jeremy Lan of Vernon Hills was among the more than 1,000 students and teachers from Iowa and throughout the nation who were recently invited to be honored at the University of Iowa Belin-Blank Center's Recognition Ceremony. Additionally, recognized students were given the opportunity to honor a teacher they credited for having a profound influence on their lives.
• Megan Bowens, daughter of Kevin and Patricia Bowens of Libertyville is among 63 student members elected to join The Loras Alpha Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma (DES), a National Scholastic Honor Society that invites college students earning a GPA of 3.7 or above to join. Bowens is a senior at Loras College.
• Dawn Tutt was awarded a doctor of audiology degree from the School of Audiology at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Elkins Park, Pa.
Dr. Tutt earned her bachelor's degree in communication disorders and sciences from Southern Illinois University and received a master of arts in audiology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Tutt resides with her husband and children in Batavia, and is the daughter of Susan Minor of Barrington, and Don Minor, Lake Zurich. She is in practice at Naperville Hearing Services in Naperville.
• Sandy Kim of Vernon Hills was named to the fall 2007 high dean's list at Millikin University, Decatur, for earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
• Bryana M. Fritz of Mundelein was named to the 2007 fall dean's list at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis/St. Paul. To qualify, students achieved a grade point average of 3.66 or higher.
• Giovanni Paparella, son of Dr. and Mrs. Dominick Paparella of Libertyville, and a freshman at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, was named to the 2007 fall semester dean's list for having a GPA of 3.8.
• Brandon Djonlich of Lake Zurich and Heather Giless of Wauconda were inducted into the Lambda Sigma Honor Society of Northern Illinois University, DeKalb. Lambda Sigma is an honor society of sophomore students who exhibit distinguished ability and achievement in four areas: scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service. A minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and enrollment in good standing with the university are required for application. Selection is based on leadership and service to the university community during the student's freshman year.
• Officer Stephanie Whittaker and Officer Shelton Davis graduated from the University of Illinois Police Training Institute Jan. 17. At the Basic Law Enforcement Class 2440 graduation ceremony, Whittaker received a Physical Fitness Award from the Associate Director of PTI Mike Miller. The 12-week Basic Law Enforcement course, held in Champaign, academically and physically challenges the students, who upon successful completion of the course are certified as law enforcement officers by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
• The University of Dayton in Ohio named the following students to the dean's list for the 2006-07 winter semester. To qualify, a student must achieve a superior academic record with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Hawthorn Woods: Jamie Fisher, whose parents are Jim Fisher and Margarita Fisher; and Colleen Donovan, daughter of Terry Donovan.
Libertyville: Elizabeth Herdmann, daughter of Daniel and Joanne Herdmann; and Matthew Hogan, son of William and Susan Hogan.
• Millikin University in Decatur announced the following students were named to the dean's list for the 2007 fall semester for earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
