Lombard ladies, start decorating

The Lombard Historical Society and the Maple Street Chapel will hold a contest to find the best-decorated Victorian-era hat at 2 p.m. April 6 at the chapel, Main and Maple streets, Lombard. The contest is part of the program "Casting a Historic Ballot in Lombard: A Re-creation of Ellen Martin's Scandalous 1891 Vote," which highlights the struggle for women's voting rights in the 19th century.

All hats must be handmade and reflect Victorian women's lavish style. Those who attend the program will be able to vote for their favorites. After voting, all program guests may attend a tea with Eileen Mueller, wife of Lombard village president Bill Mueller. Prizes will be awarded during the tea.
