Garden club names new officers
The Wheeling Garden Club announced the following new board members for its 2008/2009 season: Chris Brady, president; Amelia Possekel and Linda Reading, vice presidents; Norm Schaeff, treasurer; and Judy Koller, secretary.
The club meets 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month March through December. Meetings and programs are open to the public and new members are welcome. Call Chris, (847) 537-8642.
• Elk Grove Village resident and attorney Cynthia E. Garcia was elected a shareholder at Querrey & Harrow, a 75-attorney law firm based in Chicago.
Garcia concentrates her practice in corporate law including commercial transactions, banking law, real estate, estate planning, elder law and probate administration.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree from DePaul University in 1998 and a juris doctorate from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2001. Garcia is a member of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
• Robert L. Whisler, president of Arlington Heights-based Brian Properties Inc., a full-service commercial real estate firm, was named to the board of directors of Village Bank and Trust, which has three locations in Arlington Heights and one in Prospect Heights.
Whisler, an Arlington Heights resident, also serves as a commissioner of the Arlington Heights Park District and is a past president of the park board.
• Arlington Heights resident Jodi Patt Pellettiere an attorney with the national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP, was selected for inclusion on the 2008 Illinois Rising Stars list by Law & Politics.
Pellettiere, who was honored by her peers for her diligent work with nonprofits, focuses her practice on representing and advising nonprofits with respect to corporate and tax issues.
• James B. Conant High School senior Stuart Pearlman, will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Schaumburg Academy of Music, 1140 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.
His performance will include "Kol Nidre" by Bruch, "Allegro" by Corelli, "Suite in G Major" by J. S. Bach, "Concerto in C Minor" by J.C. Bach, and a set of duets in G major by Beethoven, which he will be playing with his father, Steve.
Pearlman has been taking private viola lessons at the Schaumburg Academy of Music for six years and currently studies with Johanna Yaeger.
Pearlman plans to attend Lake Forest College next year, but has not yet determined a course of study. At Conant, he has been active in wrestling, orchestra, the school's newspaper and tutors students. He has also volunteered at local community thrift stores.
