Briefs: Naperville slates utility work

Work is scheduled to start Monday to improve water mains and electric infrastructure in downtown Naperville, city officials said. The work, to be done by Bolder Contractors Inc. of Deerfield, will involve installing about 3,000 feet of 12-inch water main and 3,400 feet of electric duct bank to upgrade existing utilities. The work will affect areas along Aurora Avenue from Eagle to Washington streets; Main Street from Aurora Avenue to Water Street; Webster Street from Hillside to Aurora avenues; and Hillside Avenue from Webster to Washington streets. The project will be done in phases and cause some traffic disruptions. The bulk of work is scheduled to be done by the end of June.

Lisle plans crackdown

Lisle police said they will conduct a roadside safety checkpoint Monday along Maple Avenue to crack down on drunken driving and seat-belt infractions. The enforcement effort is being conducted in conjunction with the federal You Drink & Drive, You Lose campaign and the state's Click It or Ticket effort. Funding has been provided by both state and federal traffic safety programs.

Scam warning in Lisle

Lisle police are warning homeowners about a home improvement scam that recently occurred on Chippewa Court. The homeowner told police two men posing as contractors entered the house to discuss roof repairs. One of the men asked the homeowner to go to the basement while the other entered a bedroom and took several valuable items. A third person then arrived and the three left the area in a black SUV. Police are encouraging residents to deal only with reputable firms and to call authorities if they suspect they have been approached by scam artists.
