U-46 school news
Here is what's in the news at Elgin Area School District U-46 schools.
Larkin High
• On Wednesday, the seventh hour band will perform a concert with the jazz ensemble at 7:30 p.m. in the Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Tickets are $1 per student or senior citizen, $2 per adult, and $5 per family.
• On Thursday, the sixth-hour band will perform a concert with the wind ensemble at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $1 per student or senior citizen, $2 per adult, and $5 per family.
South Elgin High
• On Thursday, the fashion design students will present a fashion show at 7 p.m. in the South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St.
• On Saturday, the Class of 2010 and 2011 class councils will host "Lunch with the Easter Bunny" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $10 per student and $5 per adult. Tickets will be sold at the door. The lunch also includes games, face painting, an Easter egg hunt and a picture with the Easter Bunny.
Streamwood High
• On Tuesday, the music department will host a Pasta dinner fundraiser and solo recital at 7 p.m. in the Streamwood High School commons, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. Admission is $ 8 per person, or $24 per family, and is open to the public.
• On Thursday, the Sabre Symphony orchestra and the choral ensembles will join their talents to present Mozart's Requiem Mass at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Four professional soloists will also perform. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult, and $6 per family.
• On Saturday, the Athletic Booster Club Pancake Breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. in the commons. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per family.
Abbott
• On Tuesday, the Abbott Middle School Band will present a concert at 7 p.m. at the Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin.
Kimball
• On Tuesday, fourth- to sixth-grade orchestra students from the elementary feeder schools (Century Oaks, Creekside, Highland, Hillcrest, and Sheridan) will perform a recital at 7 p.m. at Kimball Middle School, 451 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin.
• On Thursday, the middle school orchestra students will present a Chamber Café night at 7 p.m.
Larsen
• On Wednesday, Miss Illinois Ashley Hartfield will make an appearance at Larsen Middle School in Elgin to speak to the students about Character Counts and making good decisions.
• On Thursday and Friday, the spring play "Murder by Indecision" will be presented at 7 p.m. at Larsen Middle School, 665 Dundee Ave. in Elgin This play is open to the public. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult, and $6 per family.
Centennial
• On Thursday from 8:30 to 11:15 a.m., the sixth-grade students present a mini Medieval Fair, complete with fortune tellers and sorcerers, at Centennial Elementary School, 234 E. Stearns Road, Bartlett. This is in conjunction with their social studies unit. Students dress the part and supply food from that era. It's a great time and a lot of effort goes into making this a real success. Parents are invited to attend.
Coleman
• On Friday, Coleman Elementary School, 1220 Dundee Ave. in Elgin, will celebrate its ninth annual Fine Arts Night with a focus on the arts in literature. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with musical performances, a show of student artwork, and a selection of fine arts/literacy activities that families can enjoy together. Hawk Hollow
• On Wednesday, T.J. Lasmarias, a fifth-grader at Hawk Hollow Elementary School in Bartlett will compete in the Kane County Chronicle Spelling Bee at Pheasant Run. He won the regional contest at Abbott Middle School last month. The winner of this contest will go to the National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May.
Highland
• On Friday morning, the sixth-graders at Highland Elementary School in Elgin will visit Medieval Times in Schaumburg.
Laurel Hill
• On Tuesday, the Crossroads After School Kid's Club will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Laurel Hill Elementary School gym, 1750 Laurel Ave., Hanover Park. Also on Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m., Kindergarten Parent Night will be held in the gym.
Nature Ridge
• On Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., Nature Ridge Elementary School will host a Fun Fair in the classrooms, 1899 Westridge Blvd., Bartlett. There will be games, food, prizes, an online auction and basket raffle.
Timber Trails
• On Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Timber Trails Elementary School will host their annual Family Bingo Night in the gym, 1675 McDonough Road in Hoffman Estates. There will be lots of great prizes, along with a bake sale and popcorn.
