Rosemont officials Wednesday increased by 3 percent, the pay to a cleaning company owned by the mayor's brother for the convention center and village office building. Mt. Prospect cites state

The Mount Prospect village board has passed a resolution calling upon the Illinois General Assembly to stop authorizing new or increased pension benefits and pass sensible reforms to protect funds that provide retirement benefits for municipal police officers and firefighters. Police and fire pension funds statewide are underfunded by about $180,000 per active employee, said Mount Prospect Mayor Irvana Wilks. To help prevent further erosion in the fiscal condition of the funds, the village is calling on the General Assembly to stop any proposed legislation that would create new or increased pension benefits.

More reports of Web scam

An employee at IPA, 1275 Barclay Blvd., Buffalo Grove, reported receiving a fake e-mail threat Tuesday aimed at extorting money, Buffalo Grove police said. In addition, an employee at Therm Flo, 251 Holbrook Drive, Wheeling, received the same message Feb. 28, police said. Similar e-mails have been sent to individuals in Arlington Heights and other communities. Police said people should delete the messages and not respond to them. According to reports, the grammatically inaccurate message states that the sender has been hired to kill the recipient, but the sender will not carry out the assassination if the victim pays them off.
