3 arrested in Fox Lake home invasion

Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with an early-morning Fox Lake home invasion in search of guns, police said.

Ryan J. Pike, 25, of 123 S. Route 12, and Richard Madden, 19, of 260 E. Grand Ave., pushed their way into a home on the 2600 block of East Grand Avenue at 2 a.m. Feb. 21, Fox Lake police Lt. Jeff Norris said Wednesday.

They are charged with home invasion, a class X felony, and aggravated battery, a class 3 felony. Madden is also charged with unlawful restraint, a class four felony. If found guilty of all charges, the two men could spend up to 30 years in prison, officials said.

Pike's girlfriend, Samantha Madden, 18, of Ingleside, was also arrested, Norris said. She is charged with obstructing justice, a class 4 felony, for concealing evidence and information during the investigation. She is free from jail after paying 10 percent of a $40,000 bond.

Norris said the victim was sleeping in his room with his wife and child when he heard banging on the door. He answered the door to find Pike and Madden with scarves over their mouths, Norris said.

"They pushed into the house wanting the guns the victim had," Norris said. "Then, they started beating him with a baseball bat and forced him into the bedroom and started to threaten the wife and child."

There, the offenders discovered a rifle, prompting a second struggle, Norris said. During the scuffle, the victim got the gun and tried to shoot one of the offenders, but the gun didn't fire.

The scuffle moved back into the living room, which allowed the woman to lock the bedroom door to protect herself and the child, Norris said.

The victim was able to pull the scarf off Pike's face and immediately recognized him, Norris said. However, the victim was hit in the back of the head with a plastic toy gun, giving the offenders a chance to flee, Norris said.

The victim tried to give chase but couldn't. Instead, he ran to a neighbor's house and phoned police.

The victim was treated at the scene for his injuries and declined a trip to the hospital.

Pike and Madden were identified by the victims and arrested Feb. 29, Norris said.

The victim was in possession of the guns legally and had a valid fire arms owner identification card, Norris said.
