Ice Skating in the Park: Are you a winter person?
The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department urges you to bundle up, grab your ice skates and a thermos of hot chocolate and head to Sunset or Stoneybrook parks to enjoy the outdoor ice skating. Rinks open to the public beginning Parks are open from sunrise to sunset. Green flags indicate that the ice is ready for skating (no hockey, please.)
Family Fun Night: Is your family feeling those winter blues? Here is a great opportunity for your entire family to escape for a night of fun activities, yummy pizza and cold beverages.
The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department is holding its annual Family Fun Night from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Discover the awesome activities, cool classes, exciting events and fantastic field trips available in the Winter/Spring Brochure. There's something for everyone, so don't miss out on Family Fun Night! Cost is $3 per person or $10 for a family of four.
For youth
Spring Break Camps: Need a fun, safe, activity-filled place to go over spring break?
The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has the perfect place. Students in kindergarten through fifth grades can meet up with your favorite camp counselors from the summer camp program. Play games and challenging sports; make arts and crafts projects; go on a short, local trip daily and have lots of fun.
Registration deadline is Friday. Resident rate is $33, nonresident rate is $36 per day. Camp dates are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 24-28.
Register for just a few days or for them all. No refunds will be given after deadline.
Middle School Manicures and Munchies Pajama Party: Calling all middle school students, ages 11-15. The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has a fabulous night of pampering planned for you from 6 to 8 p.m. March 14. Participants will receive a special hair design, a manicure featuring polish with nail air design and age-appropriate make up.
Put on your P.J.'s and some comfy slippers and join the group for a Sugar & Spice Pajama Party like no other. Resident fee is $24; nonresident fee is $29. Party will be held at A.B.C. School of Nails & Technology, 14 E. Miller Road, Lake in the Hills.
Easter Egg Hunt: The Easter holiday wouldn't be the same without an old fashioned egg hunt. Kids, bring your baskets to fill with plastic eggs then get your picture taken with the Easter Bunny. This free event, hosted by the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department and sponsored by Jewel/Osco Foods of Algonquin, will be held at 8 a.m. sharp on March 15 at Sunset Park, 5200 Miller Road, Lake in the Hills, rain or shine. Prizes will be raffled.
Early Bird registration for
summer camp: The Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department's Funtasti Camp is the ultimate authority in summer friendships and fun.
Camp officially begins in June, but if you register by May 1 you'll save up to $10 off per session.
Space is limited, so register early! Due to overwhelming demand we are now offering one-week sessions in both full and half day camp. Extended time options also are available for those working parents with demanding schedules.
This primarily outdoor program includes weekly themes/parties, swimming at Woods Creek Lake, on field trip per session, sports, games, crafts and tons of fun!

Monthly Moms: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with the McHenry County chapter of Mothers & More to offer free monthly outings for moms looking to educate and inspire themselves. A new topic or speaker is presented each month.
Join the group at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate, for a special program: Sibling Revelry, Not Rivalry. Who says parenting siblings can't be fun? Join Christie Clarke, teacher, author, life-coach, mother of four, founder and director of Out-a-Box Parenting Inc., for a taste of the skills successful parents have used for 35 years through the Love and Logic program. Light snack and drinks will be provided.
For seniors
Senior trip to Gurnee Mills: Reserve your seat for the next road trip offered by the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department. We're heading to Gurnee Mills March 19 for a day of shopping. Gurnee Mills welcomes 23 million shoppers every year.
Save up to 70 percent at mlre than 200 retailers. The bus leaves at 9 a.m. sharp from the Village Hall on March 19. Resident rate is $7; nonresident rate is $9. Fee includes transportation only. Remember to bring some spending money.
