Man charged in Elgin shooting
A West Chicago man faces weapons charges in a gang-related incident that occurred on the 400 block of Addison Street in Elgin on Feb. 15.
Jose L. Herrera, 21, of 247 Neltnor Blvd., Apt. B2B, was charged in court Monday with felony aggravated discharge of a firearm and felony unlawful use of a weapon, according to a report.
Herrera was found by members of Elgin's gang crimes unit and West Chicago police at a residence in West Chicago.
Two other gang members were previously arrested on Immigration and Customs Enforcement warrants in the Feb. 15 incident where a bullet damaged a door of a home on Addison Street.
One of those was Mauricio Villagomez-Hernandez, 22, of 1225 Leawood Drive in Elgin.
Witnesses were able to give police descriptions and a license number of a vehicle involved in the shooting.
Police said Herrera and the two other street gang members had previously been deported; however, they reentered the United States before the shooting.
Herrera was unable to post a $50,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also has placed a hold on him.
His next court date is scheduled for March 13 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
