Local dance, pom teams nab state titles

Several area high school dance and pom squads took home state titles over the weekend at TeamDance Illinois State Championships in Peoria.

First-place winners include the Schaumburg High pom squad in the AAA division, Vernon Hills High in AA Open Dance, Maine South High of Park Ridge in both AAA Open Dance and Kick, St. Charles North in AAA Lyrical and Crystal Lake Central in AA Pom.

Jacobs High in Algonquin won the AAA Hip Hop title and tied with Downers Grove South High for first place in the AAA Open Pom division.

Maine South was also the overall AAA dance winner.

In the flags competitions, Palatine High took first in Tall Flag and Lyrical Flag, nabbing the overall flag championship title. Stevenson High in Lincolnshire won Short Flag and Fremd High in Palatine won for its Winter Guard Program.

St. Charles North Open Pom won first place in the JV Big Ten rankings.

In addition, Jeff Curtin of Fremd was named Mr. TDI 2008, while Aaron Sander of St. Charles East won the Teen TDI .
