Briefs: Palatine fire board members sought
The Palatine Township board will be accepting resumes from residents of the Palatine Rural Fire District who are interested in serving a 3-year term on the fire board. The term begins May 1. Interested residents are asked to submit their resumes, including background and qualifications, to the Palatine Township Center, 721 S. Quentin Road, Palatine, by March 12. They must also appear before the township board March 17.
Free concert in Barrington
The Chicago Brass Band will perform alongside the Barrington High School concert and symphonic bands during a concert March 6. The combined eighth-grade bands from Barrington Middle School Prairie and Station campuses will also perform. The Chicago Brass Band will perform selections from its competition music, which will also be performed at the North American Brass Band Championships next month. Admission is free. State scholarships open
State Rep. Fred Crespo, a Hoffman Estates Democrat, is accepting applications for the 2008-09 General Assembly Scholarship. Eight one-year, full-tuition scholarships are available to high school seniors or those earning equivalent diplomas and undergraduate and graduate students. Eligible applicants must already be accepted to a state-sponsored public university and be a resident of the 44th District, which includes parts or all of Bartlett, Elgin, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and Streamwood. Criteria could include financial need, grade-point average, activities, essay, work experience and honors or awards. Applications are due April 15. For more information, call (630) 372-3340.
