Briefs: Tax applications available
Real estate tax deferral applications are available through the Kane County treasurer's office. The program allows qualified senior citizens to defer all or a portion of their real estate taxes. Once completed these forms should be returned to the treasurer's office by Saturday. To qualify, a homeowner mustbe 65 or older by June 1, have a household income of $50,000 or less, have lived on the property for at least three years, not owe any delinquent property taxes and have proof of homeowners insurance. Help with drug bills
Batavia Retired Senior Volunteer Project Inc. is seeking applicants for its medical assistance program, which provides credits to be used for prescription drugs at Osco Pharmacy in Batavia. The credits are awarded on the basis of need with consideration given to the applicant's income and nonreimbursed payments for prescription drugs. Applicants must be at least 65 and live within the city of Batavia, Batavia Township or the Batavia Park District. An applicant can qualify for this program with an income of up to $24,000. If the applicant has a spouse or lives with one qualified additional resident, the income limit rises to $32,000, and the limit rises to $40,000 if two qualified additional residents live with the applicant. Enjoy fish fries during Lent
Ss. Peter and Paul Church has an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays during Lent. The church is at 5N939 Meredith Road (at Route 64) in Virgil. The menu includes fried perch, baked cod, french fries, baked potato, vegetable, coleslaw, applesauce, dinner rolls and dessert. Shrimp and chicken nuggets as well as beer and pop are available at an extra charge. Carryout is also available. Crafters wanted
Crafters are sought for "Santa's CraftShop," a holiday bazaar Nov. 15 at Kaneland middle and high schools in Maple Park. The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Partners in International Education and Peer Leadership student organizations.
