Car fire kills one in Lake Barrington
A car fire inside a Lake Barrington garage killed a resident Saturday morning, officials said.
The Wauconda Fire Department received a call at 8:24 a.m. for smoke coming from a garage on the 2800 block of West Lakeview Drive.
The fire was under control by approximately 9 a.m., Wauconda Fire spokesman Paul Gross said. "The garage has moderate smoke damage, but the structure wasn't destroyed. The home sustained a little smoke damage but is still inhabitable." Damage is estimated at $100,000.
The cause of fire and the fatality are both under investigation. Gross declined to comment whether the victim was male or female. "The individual appeared to be working on the car when the incident occurred," he said.
Barrington, Round Lake, Fox Lake, Mundelein and Nunda fire departments also responded to the scene.
