Briefs: Robbery suspect charged

The DuPage County sheriff's office has charged a 22-year-old Burr Ridge man with one count of burglary and another count of theft for allegedly robbing Ultimate Exposure Tanning at 18W411 Roosevelt Road near Lombard. Authorities are accusing Tomasz Chraca, of 9245 Forest Ridge Lane, of walking into the business, taking an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and fleeing on foot. Chraca is being held by the Chicago Police Department on felony charges related to another robbery that took place on the same day, authorities said.

Robbery suspects arrested

DuPage County sheriff's officers arrested two people suspected of a botched home burglary Friday afternoon on the 0S400 block of Prince Crossing Road near West Chicago. The two suspects are being held in DuPage County jail pending formal charges.

Aurora police hunt bandits

Aurora police are searching for three masked men who robbed a grocery store Thursday night. According to police, the men, one armed with a knife and one with a gun, entered a grocery store on the 100 block of North State Street at 9:40 p.m. and ordered an employee to the ground. According to the victim, one of the men stole 10 grape-flavored cigars valued at $1 each. The men ran out of the store, entered a van and left the area.

Citizens Police Academy

Applications are being accepted for the Addison Police Department's Citizen Police Academy, which runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays from March 13 to May 22. The free program will provide an overview of law enforcement, including presentations by police officers, facility tours, and the use of police equipment. Graduates may continue on to the Alumni Citizen Police Academy (Citizens On Patrol) and partner with the police to help identify problems and possible solutions on issues that effect the quality of life for the residents. Addison traffic crackdown

Addison police will crack down on drivers who speed or pass illegally on Route 53 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 6. The Addison Police Department's special traffic enforcement will target drivers on Route 53 between Lake Street and Army Trail Road who use the shoulder to pass illegally. Officers also will be on the lookout for speeders on Route 53 between North Avenue and Army Trail Road. Police say several crashes have occurred along Route 53 due to drivers breaking speeding and passing laws. For details, call Sgt. Roger Saran at (630) 543-3080.
