Literacy tutors sought for MCC program
McHenry County College's Office of Adult Education is looking for volunteers to teach reading or English as a Second Language.
Prospective volunteers must observe a literacy class first and then to attend one of the orientation sessions that are held throughout the year.
The next volunteer orientation is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon March 1 in Building A, Room A352 at MCC, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
Volunteers are asked to attend a workshop from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. that day.
A literacy tutor does not need to speak a second language to teach in the adult education literacy program. Flexible work schedules are available and tutors receive free basic training that includes information and skills needed to work with students in the literacy program.
To schedule an observation or for details on the Adult Literacy Volunteer Program at MCC, call Jane Brehm at (815) 455-8542 or e-mail jbrehm@mchenry.edu.
This project was made possible in part by a grant from the Illinois State Library, a division of the Office of Secretary of State, using state funds designated for literacy.
