Marian Central to stage 'Crazy for You'
Marian Central Catholic High School will present the musical "Crazy for You" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Feb. 29 and March 1 in the school's auditorium, 1001 McHenry Ave., Woodstock.
"Crazy for You," written by Ken Ludwig, uses classic songs by George and Ira Gershwin, including "Embraceable You," "I Got Rhythm," "Nice Work If You Can Get It" and "They Can't Take That Away from Me."
Set in the 1930s, it tells the story of New Yorker Bobby Child, a banker who really wants to dance on Broadway. When his mother's bank sends him to foreclose on a theater in Deadrock, Nev., he falls in love with the owner's daughter, Polly Baker. Bobby disguises himself as famous Follies producer Bela Zangler and puts on a show to save the theater.
He convinces the Follies dancers to come to Deadrock on their summer break to perform in the show. When the lovely girls arrive, the local cowboys agree to join the show, too. Problems arise when the real Zangler appears. Complications include a pushy saloon owner, Bobby's demanding mother and an old girlfriend.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. Call Marian's school office at (815) 338-4220, ext. 100. Tickets also can be purchased at the door before each performance.
